Where is My Mind?
This video has helped me to
make some distinctions.
My brain may filter and effect
my interaction with this world,
but it no more accounts for
the whole of who I am
than does my body.
Fascinating, really.
And important.
Consider how this
could help to heal some of
the stigmas we associate with
a person’s taking medication to aid
with a cognitive disability or compulsion.
We wouldn’t fault a person
for using a walker,
for example.
Lacrimosa
a reinterpretation of Mozart's masterpiece
by Zbigniew Preisner
Listen to this
after you fall into sin.
And as you do, consider:
When you are displeased
with yourself because of your sin,
God is pleased with you.
If the desire in our hearts
for God is really His desire for us,
then the anguish we feel in our
hearts after we sin
is also the anguish of Christ’s
own heart - the anguish He feels
when trying to accomplish
our salvation.
_______
Allowing love into suffering
allows God to transform it into
sorrow, which contains a promise
that mysteriously lightens the agony.
New Petersboat Series
I hope you enjoy this
new segment of the podcast
called The Monday After.
It’s a kind of re-presentation
of the Sunday homily for you
and for your loved ones.
A God Who Helps Us
an excerpt from Now is Eternity
by Worte von Blumhardt
Not until we know something
of the wonderful goodness of God
- the great God of heaven and earth
whose kindness goes out to the
lowliest and comes to their aid
outwardly as well as inwardly -
not until then will we know what God is
and feel lifted and carried by his peace.
As the psalmist says, “We have
a God who helps us, and a Lord who
saves us from death.”
Oh, if only we had faith truly
to comprehend how close
God is to us.

A Catholic at The Times
You might like this podcast.
Ross Douthat is an opinion columnist
for the NY Times (I know).
He’s a smart Catholic who
loves the Church and his guests,
all of whom (in my own opinion) are
better for having met Ross.
His new podcast is among my favorites.
I think you might like it too.
