The Holy Spirit

THE HOLY SPIRIT

Someone recently asked me, “Father, when you pray, do you pray to Jesus? Or to the Father? Or to the Holy Spirit?” I replied, “I ask Jesus to come to me, and then I pray with Him to the Father. At least, that’s how I experience it.” She followed up, “So what about the Holy Spirit?” “Well,” I said, “I suppose He’s the One making it all possible.”

The Feast of Pentecost is coming soon, and the Mass readings are preparing our hearts for the descent of the Holy Spirit. He is the Third Person of the Holy Trinity. And His mission is to keep us in communion with Christ - to grow that relationship. He does this in many ways. Inspirations and insights into the truth, the Sacraments, and the teaching authority of the Church are just a few. All of these are works of the Holy Spirit, because they enable us to remain in Christ.

Jesus has united us with the Father; now the Holy Spirit is working to unite us more fully to Christ. He is advocating for us. And His primary desire is the same as Christ’s: unity. At the Last Supper, Jesus prayed that His disciples “all may be one,” just as He and the Father are one. The Holy Spirit may be mysterious, but He is nevertheless always laboring in the Church and world to unify us with God and with one another. +

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Please remember in your prayers the children of our parish receiving the Eucharist for the first time this week and next.

FAMILY CENTER

Along with some new plantings, the decorative grill wall adorning the exterior of the Family Center will be repainted to match the color of the bricks, the statues included.

THE CESSPOOL

Thank you to those of you who gave a little extra to help with fixing the cesspool. Mike Viola, our Facilities Manager, seems happy with the way it is now, and will seed that dirt patch on the lawn within the week.

SOME LANDSCAPPING

Over the next few months, some work will be done on the property to beautify those exterior spaces in need of rejuvenation. Parishioner John Elarde will oversee the design and installation of new bushes, trees and some fencing as well.

THE SECOND FLOOR

The councils and staff and I are looking into renting the second floor of the school, after offering it first to Eden II, who currently rent the first floor. Should you know of any non-profit that may be interested, please let me know.
